The 'world' didn't start using it. The governments and media started using it, neither of which represent the people anymore. Putting aside the fact that Al-Qaeda is an organisation created by the CIA decades ago. There are plenty of passages in the Quran, Sura's and Hadiths regarding fighting Jihad against the Kafir (non-muslims). At its core Islam is a Fascistic ideology, advocating the conversion of all people to Islam. Although this is the case, they do not have the means to commit these acts of terrorism in the ways they apparently did on 9/11 and 7/7. My point is, the Governments of the West are using these Jihadists as a scapegoat, usually helping them covertly via agents in the secret services (moles) in other to build them up, then the public police can 'do a sting and narrowly avert another attack' which they can get use to bolster public support for creating a police/ surveillance state. There is a lot more going on then meets the eye.

I am not the world, to describe "Islamic terrorism" as Al-Qaeda is wrong. While Everyone that belongs to Al-Qaeda is Islamic not all Islamics are Al-Qaeda. The percentage is very very little of Islamics who have anything to do with Al-Qaeda.
Just as where All of IRA is christian not all Christians are Part of the IRA. It is a very very little percentage that is actually part of the IRA.
When any one uses the Words Islamic terrorism, or Christian terrorism, what it invites and encourages racism and prejudices against to a group as a whole.

IRA & Christian is an oxymoron. Islamic governments are sponsoring terrorist groups & their own people are killing each other because other nations are paying them to do so. A suicide bomber's family gets a new home. Anyone who kills an American gets a nice payoff. Bomb a mosque across town and if the bomber is "fortunate" enough to become a martyr, he's propped up with 72 virgins for eternity.
IRA--no government has sponsored their activities. Only off-shoot sects of the Catholic Church have been known to provide them with funds. The IRA is in the midst of a peace/disarmament treaty with the government of Ireland.
Islam continues to explode within, with no let-up in sight.

These two don't seem at all the same. If I remember correctly the IRA fought actal wars in which they were recognized as soldiers. They didn't hijack planes and kill thousands of innocent people. These so called "Christan terror organizations" are not known for daily attacks on the innocent. Sure they are wrong in their ways, but cannot be compared to the islamic terrorists of today.

Well I havent seen people use islamic terrorism as an expression much. they are often in the same dialogue but not as an expression much.
And Al Queda is just one of many Hamas, Hezbolah (sp), Islamic Jihad ( they call themselves that ), and others... these are all comprised of Islamic fundamentalists.
the IRA that yo are referring to is composed of both catholics and protestants and their issue isnt religion per se but national identity. It has much more to do with political movements than religion.

The I.R.A was involved in terrorism against its own faith ( different sects, but the same faith ) where as AL- Qaeda is waging a cam pain against a totally different religion, hence the us of the word Islamic. Also the I.R.A was primarily against the British Gov and wanted unification with southern Ireland.

While the IRA is a separatist group, being primary motivated because they want Ireland to be separate from the UK, there are Christian Terrorist organizations and are referred to as such in the media, such as the Army of God and several organizations inside the Christian Identity movement (Although they are motivated by racism as well as fundamentalist Christianity).

Can not answer without racism, because racism is the answer.
It allows the US Public to assign an ethnic face for their minds-eye picture every time the words are used.
It is racist propaganda at it's finest, created in the US and UK and specifically tailored for Anglo consumption.
While on the topic of terrorism and Al Qaeda, this documentary may be interesting:

good question. Here in the UK we experienced Christian terrorism from the IRA for many years, but of course it was never referred to as such. And, oddly enough, we never invaded Dublin and bombed it to pieces. Does anyone know why?

The situation in Ireland was political under the guise of religion. Neither the IRA or the UDA were in anyway "Christian". They claimed to be 'catholic' and 'protestant' but were basically non christian. Their "enemy" was known and confined to a limited area, and where the 'terror' could be expected was known - precautions could be taken against the 'terror'. The aim of the 'terror' was specific and known. The term "terrorist" had not been coined.
With Islam, the target of terror is almost anyone who isn't Islamic. Their targets can, and are, anyone/anywhere/anytime. The reason for the terror is terror.
