Java Installation?

Can we install Java 2 from internet?. How to install it and from which site offering the free Java Software and What is the first step to run a simple programme like print some text in the screen.
Please help me. Thanks in advance.

You can download Java from http://java.sun.com . To run Java applications, you just need the JRE (runtime environment), but to create Java applications, you need the SDK (software development kit).

Once installed, have a look at Sun's tutorial: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/
