As I read these responses, they sound like little kids in a 2nd grade classroom talking about cookie cutter patriotism and freedom and George Washington. Here's an example.
1.We love our country and we are gonna win.
2. We support the troops and Bush is good.
3. They trying to kill us but freedom aint free.
I mean where did they get this crap...from a military public relations film reel starring Jimmy stewart! LMAO... it's funny and embarrassing at the smae time.

Have you paid any attention to the crap the media forces down their throats? In a society where mediocre is good enough it's difficult to rise above the crowd. When people aspire to be on the Jerry Springer show and it's cool to be a pimp, gangster, whore, bi*** or ni*** what else do you expect. Kids today are drawn into believing that having the most 'bling' is more important than how you got it. They aren't encouraged to earn what they get, they're urged to take it. It must be somewhat difficult for the kids that DO want to achieve something with their lives to find solid motivation. When I was young, we could look up to our sports and entertainment celebs as roll models and hero's. But today's crop of celebrities is either getting arrested for something stupid or in and out of rehab. Take a good look around you and you will see how they became the under-achievers that you see. To all of you kids out there who really do give a f***, I know you're trying and God bless you.

Americans are very gullible in the fact that instead of looking for what to believe, they let propaganda and television tell them what is right and what is wrong instead of actually knowing. take the war in iraq, i'm sure most people have no idea what the war is based on. Or Hawaii, people think its this great american vacation spot when in fact, America illegally annexed their land and overthrew their queen. ahahah or that terrorists are used as an excuse for everything n days. Americans are very dumb and very gullible and need to stop watching T.V and glorified war movies and open a history book.

Blame it on the educational system. When we have teachers that aren't even qualified to teach, what kind of product do you expect? Good example is Ebonics. Second example is teachers that like to molest students, even elementary school students. Teachers pass students who can't even read at an efficient level to the next grade. As for the patriotic comments made by children, they are much more fervent in China, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, & Syria. As for Jimmy Stewart, despite his acting career, he retired as a Major General in the US military. Any comments he left behind, beyond a movie script, are still considered exemplery & good examples of how true patriots should behave.

A former coworker of mine - an ex-Marine, no less - often spoke of the "dumbing down of America."

Charlooch (above) hit the nail on the head when he wrote,"That's the whole point of good propaganda. You want to create a slogan that nobody's going to be against, and everybody's going to be for. Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn't mean anything. Its crucial value is that it diverts your attention from a question that does mean something."

Maybe if more people read Orwell's "1984" they'd learn about the use of propaganda and "newspeak."

People mouth epithets and have no idea what they're saying.

Good question and if there is any conspiracy in this country its the stupidity of its citizens mixed with clever marketing.
For instance......................
The point of public relations slogans like "Support our troops" is that they don't mean anything... That's the whole point of good propaganda. You want to create a slogan that nobody's going to be against, and everybody's going to be for. Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn't mean anything. Its crucial value is that it diverts your attention from a question that does mean something: Do you support our policy? That's the one you're not allowed to talk about.
So the young and old alike fall for the propaganda/public relations before they seek truth. But then again, we live in a society that has replaced truth with spin.

This is true and many of the reasons given in the answers are also right. But from which country are the Q&A's. If Brits then you need to ask the same in UK. Also why are youth so scruffily dressed lazy and drunk ? After all U.S and U.K are best buddies right ? Who's influencing who?

Good question.

I think it's because they've all become so wealthy and don't want for anything.

In the 60's people didn't have much so took an interest in social issues and international issues (e.g. Vietnam war). They didn't take any crap and protested about it.

These days, people have it very easy so why bother going outside to protest. It's the old "I'm alright Jack" syndrome.

To make excuses for themselves it's easy to quote mindless slogans from TV (made by their 'leaders'). No need to think, someone else will do that for them.

because not everybody can go to sophisticated schools and get a first degree education, so they express themselves in more simpler terms. There is nothing wrong with that. If more news outlets actually investigated the news happening instead of just reading it off the AP wire and if FOX News would pull there head out of their ideological ****, maybe they would be more informed, and make even longer run on sentence's like this one... ok

Funny, I thought you were talking about the idiotic spewings like:
1. Bush is dumb
2. Bush is Nazi
3. Bush is Hitler
4. GOP are fascists
5. GOP are evil
6. War for oil
etc.

Or are those considered liberal wisdom and intelligence of the highest order?

I would label your myopic rant as hypocrisy.

opinions are like armpits, we all got em they all stink. but just to add a bit more odor to the forum, what you are seeing is a monumental shift in today's youth back to conservatism. alot of them feel strong about what they believe in, educated about it or not. i think this scares the baby boomer generation, because just like the generation they rebelled against before them, we are rebelling against the baby boomer generation. this move is a ploy to remove the general negatism about america that the left seems so adamant to portray. believe it or not, we learned something from vietnam-the most committed will win. my roomate served in iraq for 16 months, now he sooner wishes to go back over there than face the jerk offs on the street carrying signs. thanks to the left's lack of support he has been rendered into a depression along the likes of finding myself drinking with him into the wee hours of the morning.

thanks for nothing.
