My wife says that every day I get more like Victor Meldrew, every time the news comes on TV or I pick up a newspaper I say the same "I do not believe it".

It does get pretty bad sometimes. Spin has been spun out for too long - I'd love to see some impartial and objective reporting for a change.
It's partly the media themselves - contrived reality shows replacing real reporting and entertainment. Alan Whicker's experience with ITV was a case in point.

But that's what sells- controversy. Very seldom does good news make the front page or the opening story on the news. Big disasters and disagreements and the chaos of war are what viewers are wanting to find out details about- myself included.

I completely understand. Perhaps, like me, you were brought up to watch (or listen to) the News everyday, and it has become a kind of duty. It's OK, by watching the news, you do not improve the fate of the world or anyone in it, so it's OK to switch off for a few weeks. Doesn't mean you're shallow or don't care, just means nobody is paying you or relying on you to watch, so give yourself a break - I do, sometimes.

Oh, same with me. I only got negative energy due to those negative news here and abroad. I only read my horoscope and nothing more. I even gave away my television set to the barbage collected. I could not stand the news anymore.
How I wish THERE WILL BE PEACE ON EARTH. GOD BLESS US ALL.

It is depressing but it's like a car wreck. You know you should look away but you can't. Luckily there is always some good news and there's too much going on in the world not to be informed.
