Because the world is not as nice as it used to be. People are not as nice as they used to be. The standards and human values of the general population are decreasing all the time. Therefore, it is no longer safe to let your child play with their friends unattended. It does not mean that their are no decent people anymore, of course their are. But the press reports of youngsters being assaulted by their peers, for no apparent reason, is growing all the time. Then there is our pathetic irresponsible government allowing paedophiles and other disturbed people back into the community. No wonder it is not safe. That is why we don't see children playing outside any more. Sad isn't it? You asked a good question.

Cause the world has gone mad ,nobody trusts anyone and everyones running scared that their kids might be abducted or bashed up etc. The news tends to always focus on the bad things that happen in the world and we are all scared that it will happen to our own kids so we keep them locked up inside then when they hit their teenage years they cant wait to escape like caged animals. Its a very sad world these days. Bring back my childhood years in the 70's and early 80's we'd play outside till the sun went down everyone knew each other and we all came home safe.

it is the television and computer age that has done the damage, not that i am against them, they are both marvellous tools.mums would have there children in the house most of the time, kept safe and away from child molesters,When i was a child we would walk miles across the fields,we would know the name of every flower or tree, know the name of every bird and the colour of there eggs. I don`t think that there are more child molesters today than 40years ago,but we hear of them more through the media.I let my children grow up safe like i did and tried to tell them of the inherent dangers out their.Thank God they grew up safely but they did have a childhood they could look back on in later years.

I wouldnt let my children play out the front of the house unless she is with a friend and i can see them at all times!, Sounds bad, but there are way too many sick people out there ready to take advantage of these inocent children, Its sad really i remember playing outside when i was younger, but i love my children too much, to even tempt fate. Its a shame that it has come to this, but too many children are subjected to things they dont even understand. And i have no trust in those i dont know, and sometimes in those i do!!

Lots of reasons
Parents have to keep an eye on their children more these days
A lot of children have no idea of playground games like
Hopscotch, Big ship, Farmer wants a wife and all the other games that involve running around
Children prefer to play video games and use their PC`s in the comfort of their homes , Its a shame really

My kids have no interest in playing outside - my son plays soccer in the local park, but only for an hour or so, my older daughters will go for a walk (about 40 minutes) most evenings, but that's about it. I make them cycle to horseriding at the weekends (about three miles), but am afraid to let them do that in the summer season (I live in a tourist area) when the traffic is heavy.
They don't have that spirit of innocent adventure anymore, when kids would get involved for hours on end in some 'mission' and go on big exporing expeditions like we used to. I try to get them to walk to the beach in summer, or at least cycle, but it's tough going!

I guess it's a combination of things, their interests are different, they have less time and more homework, they have more structured activities and the safety issue is a big one.

One reason is the fact that technology has over taken all those out door games and the second is the fact that parents just don’t feel safe any more like they used to. Especially with the terrorist attacks, random shooting, drugs and abductions and all those have affected the neighborhood. And then there is this fact where just like adults they also have been pushed into the rat race to achieve more and more…………..so no time for real child hood!!

I always wanted to play outside as a kid, which wasn't that long ago... it just wasn't safe to anymore.. with all the pedophiles, child abductions... my parents wouldn't even let me walk to the playground around the corner when I was 16 by myself.
