It started to swell last night but it is severley painful when you barely touch it. How many days should I wait to do anything about it? Now, please realize, I am a very responsible parent, she just never gets hurt and when she does it is a doozy. I guess I am just asking for a parent (or mother's) opinion as to wether or not they would seek medical treatment or not.
Also, my daycare lady feels terrible but is was not her doing. My child was running in the snow and ice and she fell. How do I let her know that I am "OK" as a parent and I am not upset. She was really distraut last night about it. I tried to tell her it was ok but I suppose I would feel the same way. Anyway, thanks in advance for your answers.

I was already on my way to get her from work it happened at the end of the day. I am certain it is not a rib...it is more towards the pelvic area.

For those who thought I was doing a bad thing by not taking her to a doctor, what I didn't tell you is that I work for 6 surgeons and I was going to wait until I got to work to ask one of them but I couldn't wait any longer so I had to ask. She is just fine. She has several bruises from the fall but has been bounging around the house like a jack rabbit since that day. Thank you very much for your answers.

Hi!! I'm an EMT!! (Ambulance worker) If this is a genuine question, you need to call an ambulance for your daughter to go to hospital right now!! The reason for the ambulance is that it's the quickest way for your daughter to be assessed at home and it sounds like further assessment by a doctor would be a very good idea.
Don't stress, ambulance transport isn't just for people with life threatening medical problems, it's also a practical resource for the community!!
If nothing else, the ambulance guys/girls can assess your daughter and work out what's needed to help your daughter. Let me know how it turns out.

first of all, the child should of had medical attention when she showed signs of pain, after falling,, you should be upset if the daycare provider didnt contact you as soon as it happened,,,,,, if in daycare, this is a small child right? with swelling, take her to an emergency room or doctor right now,,, she might of broken a rib,,,,,,
i know you are a caring , good mother, i would just advise with any child, always err on the side of caution, as they can have major things and not show much sign, and have little things with big symptoms,, dont always go by how serious you think it is, or fever etc, go by your gut feeling if you think something is not right with your child, see a doctor then
plus, if the child just fell and didnt show any signs of pain/discomfort, the daycare provider would not be apologizing all like that!!

Sounds like a broken rib. She need to see a doctor ASAP.
If it's not her rib she still need to see a doctor. You don't know what's wrong, depending on how hard she fell she could have damaged her pelvis or another organ in that region. Although it's unlikely, she could have internal bleeding. Take her to the doc tomorrow.

Get it checked out by a doctor. You will never forgive yourself if it is something that needs urgent attention. Even if it is turns out to be nothing, you will have gained some peace of mind by getting a doctor's opinion.
