Politics in Africa is not the same as administering an international organisation like the UN. There are many other Ghanaians currently holding important international jobs and they do not intend ever to dabble in local politics which should better be reserved for local politicians. There is a lot Kofi Annan and others like him can do to help his country other than becoming president, and like the wise man that he is, I have no doubt that he will opt for just that.

That is a matter for the people and government of Ghana. But there certainly needs to be a democratic process before anyone is elected President of any country.

Best wishes, J

Yes, well, he is a great leader, but so I'm sure are many of the politicians in Ghana today.

It's a shame he never got the US punished for not paying their UN contributions; illegal military actions; mega-mega-I-don't-care-if-I-am-wrecking-the-planet-pollution & blocking all UN reform proposals.

Just think how much the UN could get done if the five veto powers were removed (and five more population richest countries be given permamnent seats).

His name is Kofi Anan, and I think the people of Ghana have the right to elect their President democratically. He is a fine man, and would be the first to object to such a process.

Ghana is a democratic country with open and honest elections.

He should be made president if a) he chooses to stand for election and b) he wins the election.

Failing that he could, if he wishes, play a similar role to that of Nelson Mandela - a respected international statesman.

Not necessarily, Ghana has to choose their own president, but he should keep active in politics and promote Ghana and its people, and perhaps help keep the peace Afica-wide.

That's a matter for the voters of Ghana only.

I do not think he necessarily has to be made President for him to contribute to the development of his country. He doesn't have to be bogged down by local politics. Rather he can remain in the beckground and play the role of a statesman.

Sure. As soon as he [and his son] pay off the election commissioners and bribe a few judges to look the other way. It will be a bit expensive, but the money they made off their oil sales should cover it.

I think he should be elected the worlds greatest crook for all him and son stoled in the food for oil scandal.
