I'd say the saddest song I ever heard was The Death of a Soldier by Ennio Morricone. It was that one featured in the movie The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

I agree with TML, he answered before me. Eric Clapton wrote this song for his son that fell out of a high window when he was 3. "Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven, would you feel the same if I saw you in Heaven" makes me cry every time.

also, "One more day" (blackhawk???)

Hold on - Sarah McLauchlan, I read in an interview she gave that this song is about a couple who is engaged to be married and the male is HIV positive. I shed a tear everytime I hear it.
