Yes, it was very childish. If the Americans hate the French so much, why don't they take down the Statue of Liberty? It was a gift from the French after all.
The Iraq war is illegal under the guidelines of the UNSC.
So my American friends, next time you take a loud mouth stance against the French; think about the Statue of Liberty.

I thought it was unnecessary, but only a very few people did this. It was blown waaaaay out of proportion so as to paint conservatives in the worst possible light. And idiots believed that, QED.
Anyway, the reason for it goes far beyond the non-support.
First, France had promised to support the US in discussions prior to the decision, but then reneged when the time came to step up. This is a fairly serious breach of diplomacy.
It turned out that the friends of high French officials, including Chiraq, were involved in the UN's Oil-for-Food scam, getting rich and kicking back millions to Saddam.
It also turns out that France was continuing to supply Iraq weapons, long after they'd signed up on the international ban on supplying weapons to Iraq.
Do we even need to get into their undying love and support of Arafat and his terrorist activities?
So, there was very good reason for them to have earned the brickbats the conservatives cast at them. Duplicity and corruption should not be honored or lightly dismissed.

LOL.. You made me laugh... Good going girl!
Yes, it is sad and really childish, but the rest of the world STILL call those fried pieces of potatoes French fries, despite their embargo.
But you want to know what we actually are laughing even louder in France???
French Fries were actually invented by the Belgian people in Belgium. It is there National Dish. ...
So I think that in the end, if the conservatives wanted to really spit in our faces, they got the wrong end of the French stick.. Ooops I meant French Fry!!! lol....:o)))))

"Freedom fries" was a short-lived name used by some in the United States for French fries. The "freedom fries" affair was an example of anti-French sentiment in the United States. In the international debate over the decision to launch the 2003 invasion of Iraq, France expressed strong opposition in the United Nations to taking such action. The French position was not popular in the United States, leading some US citizens to campaign for the boycotting of French goods and businesses and the removal of the country's name from products.

Walter Jones, of North Carolina was part of the naming group. He did it to protest a lack of support from France of the war in Iraq.
Curiously, Rep Jones said last year he regretted this silly act as he, too, became disenchanted with Bush's foolish war.

When the French act sissified and cowardly they should not be supported for such action. That only reinforces bad behavior. Through it all though, they are free do as they wish and we are free to do as we wish.
It seems you've had your head in the dark for so long that it looks like the lights are on in there. Also, it's given you a skewed (crappy?) view of the real world.

The term freedom fries was used in the Pentagon's Dining Room. It was just a comeback to the bad remarks the French made...see if we ever save their country again...

Because the French see to believe that their oil profits from the oil for food program are more important than enforcing UN resolutions.
