I was wondering if you think that a rev tachometer with a shift light will make much of a difference in an automatic transmission car.

No but it looks cool. It might also warn you if your transmission is starting to loose it's performance by shifting at different revs than usual. I have had cars with tach's in them that were automatic there their for show mostly it showe when my turbo kicked in.

Not all manual transmission cars have tachometers. They are there to aid in driving. And also they are race inspired. They do serve a function and not all for looks.

It makes no technical difference. It is nice to see the shift points occurring and can help in troubleshooting transmission problems if they occur.

shift lights are used primarilly for racing applications to ensure syncronized shifting between runs down the track. unless your racing, i wouldnt spend the money on it. and NO they dont look cool unless you know what to do with it, just like a penis!!!
