I can remember the attitudes held towards the mature students when I was a student and mostly they were liked. However, when they became bossy and patronising the younger students did not like them. The mature students always seemed to group together as they felt we were all so immature and we were into different things to them. I am though talking of mature students in their 40s, you will fit in well with students as the age difference is not that big.

Speaking from experience, you've absolutely nothing to worry about. I went to University at the age of thirty. Firstly, mature students are highly regarded by Universities because they generally do well and bring a wealth of experience which rubs off on younger students.
In addition I found that I had a lot more in common with younger students than I would have thought (even if it is only the fact that you're studying the same course).
In any event I still keep in toutch with a lot of the younger students I met at Uni.

As a lecturer I can say you will be welcomed in any class. It is often a calming influence on the younger students and a person with a little life experience allows the younger inexperienced students someone to identify with. Go for it.

I went back to college at 40. The others in my class made no allowances for my age at all - I was expected to keep up with the nights out, drinking and everything!!
Loved every minute of it and made some friends for life!
Oh, and I also ended up with a Masters degree, which was a big plus as well.

I joined a class at 30 and was very nervous - before long they just accepted me as one of their own and they were all brilliant - it all depends on your attitude and how you treat them!
