CO2 is a molecule, not an element. The elements making up the Earth's atmosphere are nitrogen and oxygen. Trace amounts of Noble Gasses also can be found, including helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon and radon. There is a possibility of other gasses, such as hydrogen or fluorine, but since they are so reactive, they don't last long in the atmosphere.
