I bought a 3com office wireless router but have given up on trying to set it up. It asks for loads of weird settings that i havn't got a clue what they are!! And i'm not bad with computers!

So i want a new wireless router that is REALLY VERY EASY to set up, basically, it auto installs or asks only simple setup questions. Please, does anyone know of one?

For what it's worth my ISP said they chose to give their customers NETGEAR because out of all the routers they looked at , Netgear was the easiest to troubleshoot. I certainly found it extremely easy to set up.

3Com routers are among the more complicated to setup.

Netgear routers have a wizard that runs on first setup which automatically detects all the relevant settings from your broadband connections - the only thing you need to enter is your broadband login details (ie username and password as provided by your ISP).

However - one important consideration. The wizard setup sets up the basics only and does not take you through any security configurations. It'll work just fine using the wizard but you'll have an insecure wireless network if you dont take any manual steps to setup security.

Note: One repsonse suggests that computers need a B connection (ie 802.11b). This is WRONG. G is preferable to B. Virtually all computers and home wireless routers will support both.

I recently got the Linksys one, cant remember the model number (bought it in PC World), it was really easy to set up...

Just connect the blue cable from your computer to the router, run the installation CD and bingo... no weird scary settings or nothing to set up, just "Do with wish to password protect the connection?".

Why go and buy a new one, just look up your model on the Internet and I am sure you will get an easy set-up there.

Just remember when buying one, that it can be G or B. 802.11b or 802.11g... I think (could be wrong), but computers need the B connection.

Yes, all of the Linksys (Cisco) routers are very easy to set up, I set mine up in half an hour with WPA security, and havent needed to touch it since. If a powercut occurs then the router just boots backup without you having to do anything

They are all the same, They need specific information
eg Username, Password,

Type of modem connection (Broadband / ADSL)
Broadband is PPOE & ADSL is PPOA

You need to either filter connections to the Wireless router
(Mac Filter) or use a WEP Encryption Key for access.

It will setup DHCP on its own (Assigns IP Addresses)

Hope this helps
