I am suspecting that it is limewire and any other programs you use to steal stuff off of the internet. (You know, the 'software programs' that you wanted to preserve in a question a while back). I would get rid of those programs, (Limewire, any bit torrent clients, that sort of thing) and after that you should have no problems.

Some worms of Virus types can be attached to certain system files and as soon as you delete them, they will just reinfect once you restart. Two things to watch are your Internet cache and temporary files.Clear them out if you can and system restore (XP) which is the ongoing backup of your system state (I would stop the service and delete the backups before sweeping the system for virus's and worms etc). If AVG tell you what you are infected with it's worth looking the name up on-line to see if there are more detailed ways to remove the infection.

You may need to switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.
You need all three anti spyware programs;
http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
And these are useful utilities;
http://www.mozilla.com/ - Firefox web browser.
http://www.ccleaner.com Cr*pcleaner Registry cleaner and privacy tool
Winpatrol is a handy utility that manages cookies on your pc and stops unwanted changes to your startup folder.

Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

try getting a software called AG antivirus, instead of just deleting what the anti virus has found try putting it in quarantine first, and them the computer will automatically delete it or it will notice you to delete it

It might sound a bit radical, but if you switched to Linux you wouldn't need any antivirus as Linux is totally immune. You could even change your computer to dual-boot, where you can boot up into either Linux or Windows. The best Linux flavor is PCLinuxOS http://www.pclinuxos.com
