What about Croatia? Its fairly cheap here, and much of the country is still natural and not over-run by commercialisation.
The capital, Zagreb is very chic, the architechutre is beautiful, shoppings great.
In the east at Plitvitce, there are large groups of waterfalls and lakes all cascading into each other, gorgeous.
Istra in the west has lovely old monuments and churches, and the best wine & proscuitto.
Dubrovnik in the south is really nice, they have the best weather in Croatia, the water at the beaches is cyrstal clear and its only a ferry ride from Italy. Its also close down there to Bosna, where you can go on a to a famous holy place called Medugorije.
There's 1,100 islands to explore.
Plus in summer, most people will speak English if you want to.

I have lived and worked throughout Western Europe. My favorites are:
Colonge Germany, Brugge Belgium, Valencia Spain, Edinburgh Scotland, London England, Utrech The Netherlands, Bern Switzerland, Winchester England, and more if I wanted to sit down and think of it. Find an area of Europe that most interests you then get ask here again.
