Your question does not make much sense. But I assume you are asking why people are not given lengthy stays at a hospital ! Which is mainly due to the overwhelming cost, and space !

The best answer is there are multiple things, that they Will observe for 24 hours.....The rationale behind "obs" patients, is to see if there is a change in symptoms, better or worse, according to a MD 's plan......example as for chest pain they are looking for a rise in troponin I, that may not show until after 8-12 hours after the event. For the bullet wound rationale....they may watch for bleeding to develop, or for organ involvement that hasn't gotten bad enough to show at the time of exam

How long they stay is determined by two things severity of illness and intensity of treatment. If they have an illness or injury that sounds bad but isn't really causing serious problems or they don't need a lot of treatment, ie. IV therapy or IV antibiotics...they may just keep them for 23 hours to see how they do or run tests, then determine if they need to stay longer. There is really no way to list the conditions.

Usually following a head injury in which the patient lost consciousness. This is so that neuroligical observations can be carried out. Other conditions that merit 24hr admissions are cardiac problems, unexplained vomiting and suspected appendicitis. This list, however, is not exhaustive.
Best wishes, J

to make it short: any condition where the patient is stable and he will not be expected to having any problems when being at home by himself.
(e.g. some little surgery which only required some local anesthesia).
