cd rom on my lap top will play dvds but not any kind of cds
is it true u get 2 lasers in the cd rom one for dvd and one for cd

I would check the driver, in control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager. Is there an exclamation point or yellow caution sign next to the CD/DVD? If so, uninstall the CD/DVD driver, reboot, and let windows reinstall the driver.

I would also check the writer to see if it is DVD- or DVD+. Some DVD+ have weird compatibility issues.
