I tried to defrag my external harddrive, but stopped it at 13%. Now the PC creates a drive for it when I switch on, but I can't do anything else with it. When I try to open it, the PC tells me that the drive has not been formatted and asks whether I want to format it. I definitely don't! I have a great deal of work on there that I can't afford to lose! Please help!!

First Disconnect the Hard Drive you have connected( make sure you try doing it by Safely remove Hardware option on the right habd bottom corner) and then Right click on My computer icon and click Manage, and on the left hand side click device manager and click on the Disk drives and see if you have your External Hard drive there, if it does then right click on the Drive name and click uninstall( Make sure your are removing the External Hard drive) any error at this place will not cause any issues to your system. and restart the syatem after this step, if you have the system in the right way now go ahead and connect the External HDD and see if system can install it.once that it done try defrag again if it wont work let me know will give you toehr options.
