I quit smoking on Sunday night at 10pm. Today is Thursday, 4 am (I work night shift) I have not been having the dreaded nictoine withdrawl symptoms as I feared...then it hit me. Is the nicotine still in my system? And how long does it take before it gets out? I heard it was about 3 days that it took to get completely out?

How long does The Nicotine Stay in your System or Blood stream?

Officially it is 48 hours but I say 72-96 hours. That's the thing with nicotine it acts fast but also leaves the body quickly. Some people say "If it leaves the body so quick why do we crave for months" The reason for this is becuase you have associated the feeling of anxiety with smoking and so every time you become anxious you think about smoking but think it must ne a craving for nicotine.

How long can nicotine be detected in blood or urine after quitting smoking?

The byproducts of nicotine can be detected in the blood for up to a month after you stop smoking. This is only of concern if you are in a situation where someone else might want to test you for the presence of nicotine or nicotine byproducts in your system

So if you quit smoking last Sunday; your body should be free of nicotine by today, Thursday. that would be a total of 4 days. However, there are known cases that the byproducts of nicotine could stay in your system up to a month.

It is popularly believed that nicotine is released from the human body within 72 hours of its consumption, but the truth is far different. The various aspects of nicotine storage in the body last for weeks after the most recent consumption of nicotine. Many people wonder about how long nicotine stays in your blood. Blood harbors both nicotine and metabolites released by nicotine. Once nicotine consumption is stopped, then both nicotine levels and nicotine metabolite levels in the blood decrease, but it must be kept in mind that these levels do not disappear altogether. The simplest answer to the question of how long does it take for nicotine to leave your system is a few weeks.

I have been offered a team leader position from my dream company and I had to take drug and nicotine test with in 48 hours. I have never used an illegal drugs in my life but I am a light smoker about 7 years. I was able to push it out to most 5 days. I stopped smoking right after phone call from my employer and after 5 days I was able to pass the nicotine test. Got phone call on Wednesday and I had to take drug test by Friday afternoon. I took drug test at 3 pm on Friday and got a phone call on Monday morning said I failed the drug test because the drug test comes up with dilute urine and you can retake the test within 24 hrs. I took 2nd drug test next day before the lab closed and I passed this time.

I was very formal smoker. I normally smoke every day after meal maximum 5 cigarettes per day. I am 26, heavy eater 3-4 big meal a day, 5’11’’, 165lb, also I do run every week 5-10 miles. After I have been offered the job I totally stopped smoking, started drinking more water around 1.5 gallon per day, cranberry juice 4-6 cups, ate fresh green vegetables, fruits and worked out every day almost 2 hrs nonstop. I never took any vitamins, medication, Certo, nicotine gum/patch. Don’t waste your money to buy these things to pass the test. Don’t get frustrated. Just try your best to pass the test. Stop drinking water or juice 2 hrs before you drug test. You may fail the test if the test comes up with dilute urine. I am from Ohio and Nicotine is legal here. If you fail for nicotine drug test they will give you an option like you can retake it after 1-6 months so please do not overthink it. You are not doing any illegal drugs. I am smoking free almost 5 weeks and I will not go back to smoke again. Good Luck.

Hi, I took an AMA quit smoking class and they told us the nicotine is completely out of the body in three days. The feelings of withdrawal, however, will last much longer. They told us that every time you feel that strong urge for a cigarette, tell yourself, "This feeling will pass whether I have a cigarette or not, so I won't have one." It really helps. And yes, drink lots of water as it keeps you hydrated, flushes your system of impurities and makes you feel better. Keep your mind busy and change your daily routine also helps. Kudos to you for quitting and Good Luck!

I heard 7days, but I do not know. different strokes for different folks. I tried chantix, but was having suiccidal thoughts. That was about 3years ago. i just stopped smoking on my own. I said I was going to cut back, because you can't just stop. So I tried to do it that way. Seems like I was smoking more. Not at work, but when I hit my car it was on and smoking. I just stopped on Feb 23, 2015. It has been 5 days for me, I crave yes, but I know I haven't smoked in awhile. If I smoke that 1 cig, it will make me sick, and I will be smoking more. So to all those smokers out there. You can do whatever your mind lets you do. Good luck with that.
