O.K MANY PEOPLE MAY FIND IT DIFFICULT TO GET MARRIED IN OTHER CASTES. IT IS A PERSONAL MATTER AND EACH ONE IS FREE TO CHOOSE HIS LIFE PARTENER ACCORDING TO HIS CHOICE. GOTRAS ARE EVERYWHERE BUT IT IS NOT A CASTE.

wHAT IS THE LOGIC TO CALL A LOHAR (IRONSMITH) TO PERSON WHO NEVER PERFORMED IRON WORK. SIMILIARLY ONE FINDS A KUMHAR, CHAMAR, NAI ETC. NEITHER WHO'S FATHER NOR GRAND FATHER AND NOT HIMSELF EVER WORKED AS EARTHEN POTSMITH, LEATHER WORKS OR BARBING. THAN WE FIND A BRAHMIN, RAJPUT AND OTHER HIGH CASTE PERSONS CLEANING UTENSILS ON HOTELS, LABOURERS AND CLEANERS AND LAUNDRYWALAH, SHOE VENDOR AND BAND BAJEWALA, BUT NONE OF THEM ARE CALLED DHOBI, CHAMAR, MEHTAR OR SHUDRA. tHEY STILL RETAIN THEIR HIGHER SOCIAL STATUS INSPITE OF THE LOWER GRADING OF THEIR PROFESSION IN INDIAN TERMS. AN UPPER CASTE WHO RARELY WASH HANDS OR TAKE BATH IS NOT AN UNTOUCHABLE BUT A DALIT WHO IS EVEN MORE CLEAN THAN MOST CLEAN OF UPPER CASTE IS STILL AN UNTOUCHABLE DUE TO HIS LOW CASTE.

No sane saint or sage probably belong to any caste and ever propagated casteism. All characterless characters figuring in sanskrit books are not saints and sages. Is Hinduism being practised in its original form or is guided by ill distortions by selfish and evil spiritted anti Indian and anti humanity elements? Is it not possible for Indians to realise this and get rid of evil trap laid in dark period of history?

There are some castes who's names doesnot suggest any permanent profession attached to it. Suppose the caste is Bengalese than it does not suggest that Bengalese do any particular job. This include everybody and all professions. But the caste of majority of the people in India is named after the profession of their forefathers in past. So we have castes like Sonars, komhars, mahars, nais, chamars, telees, julahas, mehtars and a hundreds of others which have been permanently assigned to the people leaving little scope for mobility within diffrent professions. Such caste names may be abolished at the first instance as these have been used in derogatory and abusive manners since past. ........

We need not feel so bad about the caste system.
It is the human tendency to form groups.Even if caste is abolished he will identify himself with some group or other based on age, region, profession, religion.
The caste itself is not bad. After all it is only a social order.Only the discrimination between castes must be removed. For that the Govt.should derecognise the castes. At the same time it must ensure social justice to all the citizens particularly in the villages.100% literacy should be enforced. You may be aware that the caste discrimination is seen more in the villages among illiterate people than in urban areas.
We have the vote in hand. And we have the right to question. If the people are not indifferent the politicians will behave themselves..

Doubt full if we ever will... lets pray for the day we revamp our constitution and our politicians stop playing "caste cards" which is an extension of the same...an opportunity was lost in the early days of independence when we could have eliminated it via the Constitution but ironically our leaders added clauses in that very document which ended up strengthening the roots of casteism...while finding the solution to a an age old problem our national leaders ended up creating a bigger one...it will remain as the Black Spot on the Democratic framework of the nation as it invariably led to Caste Based Reservation which has today emerged as nothing less than a form of "Racial Discrimination" dividing the nation on the basis of castes, whatever be the purpose it serves.

As it is casteism is practiced more in relation to personal choices of marriage and relationships, but in other fields it has come to be more class oriented. The caste distinctions are already getting blurred vastly, except that they are brought to focus repeatedly by the political and bureucratic system. The political system is exploiting an old clichee rather than working on current realities. The Mandal report actually further dividied our society in caste and subcaste A,B,C,D etc etc. which became meaningless other than to corner unrightful privileges amongst certain sections of society.

The simplest thing to do in this context is to enforce strict anonymity of the caste by not demanding to know to what caste one belongs in any official matters and go by neutral merit criteria only. All the verbose debate about the backwardness of castes must cease and one must concentrate on what makes people not go to school and how to provide better quality education for everybody from grass root upwards on an equitable evaluatable basis. Why are elite schools mushrooming while the common schools are degraded? Why there is so much resource crunch in promoting village level education? Where is the question of caste based reservation at those schools when most of the villages, at least in Andhra Pradesh, are mono caste?

If we want to create a caste less society , so let there be no official caste classification for any one and let there be equal opportunities for all for development in diversity, by rooting out favouritism, corruption and political exploitation.

No,
Casteism should not be eliminated because it is one of the basic elements of the society, without casteism the world will be too monotones to live in. and....
Yes.
The ill effects of casteism should not be there and one day will come when there surely be words like Hindu, Muslim or Christian but the Word "Humanity" will have a lot more meaning for everybody, not only in India but in the world. And this will happen very soon because now the middle class is more practical than ever.
Jai Hind.

When originally the human civilisation started the so called caste what we call today was the profession(DHARMA) followed by the people. According to profession earlier this was determined. Even now we find some people with the title TOPIWALA, ENGINEER, CONTRACTOR (cricketers), DARUWALA etc. These titles were given according to the profession they or their parents pursued.
For most of the present politicians this has become an excellent trump card to be played for their success and survival. Even if the people want to forget they will not allow us to forget by creating one situation or other. If every political leader is going to work for the welfare of the public why cant they join together and work to make the planet earth a comfortable place for every one to coexist. If it is so public will forget the politicians which is for their peril. It is not the country or countrymen standing in the way or wanting it, it is more the so called leaders who want to keep the subject alive.

Casteism exists all over the world and it is not peculiar to India as assumed by you.

Take Islam. There are Shias, Sunnis, Ahmedias, etc. Take Christianity. There are Catholics, Protestants, Angelicans, Prebestarians, Pentecostal, etc. These are also similar to castes prevailing in India. Each one of the above cannot see eye-to-eye with each other.

There is a greater caste tolerance in India. Recently you have notice in the newspapers that an Hindu Mandir Pujari marrying off his adopted Muslim daughter and performed the marriage in the temple premises. Nearer to my home a Muslim adopted an orphaned Hindu girl and married off her to a boy of her liking. Among the Jews also there are different denominations which again is akin to caste system.

Therefore, castigating India in such a manner is not correct.

I think it is very difficult to have a cast free society until these so called high cast people leave the double standard.Brahmins cann't accept a low cast person as their boss even though he is more intelligent than them. These so called high cast people's way of talking is the main reason for the non-development of low cast people. These so called high cast people always say that "the low cast people cann't do things perfectly how they do"...
These so called high cast people have been talking this way for centuries together which definitely makes low cast people to think themselves as inferior people. If you say a person "waste fellow" once itself it has a lot of psychological influence on the peron and if u repeat it countless no of times definitely he would become a waste fellow.First let these so called high cast people change their attitude towards the so called low cast people, then we can think of the development of low cast people which would definitely eradicate the casteism from our society.

No India will not get rid of Casteism Because this Indian soil is blessed with Great saints and sages who have penanced for years and years and belive me the Immortal Hanuman still is a chiranjeevi in this land and hence Hindus will remain as Hindus only. May be the Muslims and the christians may return safely to their land of pakistan or America, or Isrel.

Just like a Black buffallo eats a green grass and gives a white milk, the same way, we indians may face a lot of terrorism and we may undergo a lot of hardships but still we will only give love, peace and kindness with a smile and say 'WELCOME" TO THIS HOLY LAND.

Yes and No.
For Yes Indian Constitution should be re-written and changed.

For the present Indians cannot get rid of casteism since our Constitution gives unlimited freedom and equal rights to all religions. Under the present Constitution, any person can start their own Religions like Bindu or Sindhu or Thundu and so on create statues anywhere and install in the name of God Gama Srishna or Civa etc and do pujas anywhere in India with Government permission and with people permission. So much of freedom is there in India to start any temple/caste under any name.

Also, people are very strong with regard to caste/religion/God etc.
Hence, it is very difficult to get rid of Castism in India.
