I'd call it trying to get attention/sympathy/empathy and realizing that deep down it's rediculous and you're happier not making a big deal about it. Don't worry, it's a good sign, it means that your human for trying to make a big deal, and an intelligent person for laughing about it.
Also, I'd say this question more than likely came from a relationship related issue, though I can see, and have seen it in other areas.
