The length of time varies quite a bit. They come off faster if...you have oily skin, wash alot, pick at them, etc... The normal expectancy is that they will last at least one week and possibly up to two. If you had staples and they removed them the wound was probably already closed and healing but we like to avoid dehiscence (a seemingly closed wound pulls apart and reopens). Dehiscence usually occurs from the patient coughing hard or moving to much before fully healed. If your not moving too much and your not coughing hard I wouldn't worry much at all. The steri-strips are just a preventative measure. They can come off whenever it happens (which for some people is as soon as 1 day later). I wouldn't pull at them on purpose but if one is only hanging on by an edge you could remove it. Otherwise just let them come naturally. If it gets to the point where they should come off but won't try rubbing the area with baby oil (or olive oil if baby oil is not present)

RE:
How long before the steri-strips come off after a c-section?
I just had a c-section 5 days ago. They took the staples out on Mon. morning and replaced them with the steri-strips and said they would come off on their own. Some of them are tring to come off now. Should I be concerned or is this normal?

I had a c-section one month ago. My steri strips started coming undone also. They came off completely at 2 weeks.

I also had a c-section like three months ago. It took a good month and a half for them to come off. There were still reminents of goo left behind. I did not want to even touch my incision....it scared the hell out of me. I heard that after they fall off you can put some baby oil to get rid of the sticky goo left behind. Just make sure you are completley healed. Good Luck!

Normal...some will still be there in a few weeks. Don't pull on them, they'll come off on their own...
