The administration is seeking 7-8 billion dollars for Afganistan and nearly 1 billion for Lebanon, yet there are people in the streets here suffering. Children don't get proper textbooks. Colleges are harder to afford. Why not spend the money here?

I don't want a welfare state or that government help everyone, just help those that are less fortunate in OUR COUNTRY. Raise money to give our seniors a little better. Make colleges FREE for one time to the young and old to better themselves. Give proper health care to any CITIZEN that cannot afford it or worries that they might lose their house because of the high price of health. Come on, people! Doing the right thing isn't that hard to do.....

Because our govt is too busy helping everyone else. The govt want the rest of the world to view us as Good & Charitable, they don't care about the U.S. citizens as much as they should. No one should have to live on the streets regardless of thier situation.

The US has a military based economy, not a welfare based economy. So the US government's primary concern is in foreign policy, thats how they make their money to maintain their place as a powerful western country.

Countries with welfare based economies (like Norway, Sweden, New Zealand) tend to have a higher standard of living, yet a much lower standing in world affairs, and must rely heavily on more powerful countries for trade and defense agreements.

The textbook situation is a state issue, write your governer. The federal government gave about $100 billion in financial aid... We as individuals need to get involved in our communities and help others... We don't want to leave it entirely to the government to take care of us...too much control...

I had to correct my answer, I said the government gave $100 million, it was actually over $100 BILLION in financial aid... be proud that your country does this.

just questioning will not solve your problem. gather one and all and raise this issue to the fullest level so that it reaches the top authority. unless the spirit is shown by the entire mass, nothing works. first instill willpower and strength in your people to fight out the problem and emerge successful, without crying.

I ask myself the very same question, why US is so obsessed to help other countries while they really cannot help themselves? This is I think a perfect example of a person who can see a speck in his brother's eye while he himself really cannot see the plank in his own eye. That's America...
