For example: I have never owned a slave and no black person alive has ever been a slave, so why do they get special treatment? Do minorities want to be equal, or better than white people?

they'll take what they can get. if we don't give them set-asides, they'll probably just commit more robbery and burglary anyway.

minorities want to be equal, that's the easy part. It's how humans achieve social equality that's the hard part. First off, I would recommend that you don't blame minorities for affirmative action, as it was the collective idea of multiple people of all "races." I would then ask you, how you would achieve social justice and equality. And if you didn't believe that social injustice was an issue in the United States, I would ask you how you formulated your opinion. If you want to know why social injustice is a problem, look at crime rates, income levels, and population location through the lens of race, and you'll find your answer. Affirmative Action is step one in fixing social injustice. It might not be the best step, but it's the first step. You can help take the next step by making positive suggestions.

Affirmative Action was enacted to supposedly level the playing field back in the 1970s. Today, forty years later, it serves no purpose because the people that used it correctly have advanced themselves and their offspring to a point where special treatment is no longer needed. The ones that continue to demand Affirmative Action initiatives just want a free hand out. As long as the African American race have spokesmen like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, they will remain slaves to the victim mentality. They need to look more towards role models such as Colin Powell, Condolezza Rice and maybe Barak Obama (haven't decided just yet how real he is) to lift themselves up and move on. Of the problems our nation faces today, race relations should be at the back of the line as we face an enemy that is hell bent on attcking us here in our homeland.

Unfortunately, affirmative action will always be necessary because of the genetic and cultural differences between the races. When it was first proposed, the proponents said that we would only need it for 20 to 25 years. We have now had it for over 30 years and there is no end in sight.

Affirmative action really has nothing to do with whether you or I owned slaves. It actually is meant to move our society past that mindset and really is a plan for future equality.

The intention of a well-practiced affirmative action policy is to purposely look for ways to give historically under-represented groups a place "at the table," whether that is in employment, education or anywhere else. Generally, the practice of affirmative action is supposed to get us to a place where minorities ARE equal, because they will be proportionally represented in workplaces, college classrooms and in other places and will have equal access to education, financial gain, healthcare, political power, etc, which will in turn affect their families and future generations of minorities.

In effect, affirmative action will be the process itself by which affirmative action is no longer needed.

The funny part of this is that if they really were "equal" they wouldn't need extra help. So in essence, by themselves admitting they need affirmative action, they are also admitting they are inferior. And to the person who said Affirmative Action benefits Asians, I have to "axe" you what planet are you from. Show me an example of any Asian that has benefited from AA. It discriminates against Asians just as it does against whites.

thats what pisses me off about this situation is that u only attack african americans when it comes to affirmative action. it is here to help ALL minorities like asians, latinos, middle easterns including women. Affirmative action isnt here to make minorities better than whites it just to help businesses, jobs, and schools become more diverse and not all white. believe me when i say this it wouldn't be needed if it was not neccessary

Don't you remember Segregation ? Rosa Parks ? KKK ? White has done so much to hurt minorites why not give them a chance to pick up. We take our life for granted because we are white. We shoud instead help the fellow man who needs a pick me up after hundreds of years of Racial inequality. I know many blacks that were affected by racial tension, civil rights, and wrong doings because of race. So in that case your facts are misleading and wrong.
