I once heard that babies in Asia, especially Japan are often fed mushy versions of exactly what the parents or older siblings are eating- spices and all. Is this true?

Until they learn to chew, they drink formula. But most of our friend, started feeding mashed rice and veges. That lasted for a few months, then when teeth started coming in, steamed rice by the grain, then by the clump. Veges chopped very small, but not mashed. That is what we did, and from what I hear, a lot of people do it the same way.

No it's not true.
Babies eat baby food.
Older babies may munch on some of the food that the parents are eating but I doubt that the food is flavored with spices and stuff.
They may feed the baby white rice mixed with warm water so that it's mushy enough but I'm sure they don't put red peppers and pour soysauce into it so the baby can enjoy some real taste.

You're joking, right ? Asia and Japan are two different things ! There are many countries in Asia. And Japan is the most high tech of them all. What you said is pure non-sense. Japan is one of the most modern countries in the world. Sounds like you're taking about a bird, not a person ! A Japanese baby eats baby food mom buys in the store !

I don't think that true, Parents are thought by pediatrician what food can the babies eat, regardless of country or nationality. This may vary though. But not with spicies. Can't find a recipe but I found a japanese book for sale. check it out.

Depends on the age of the infant...usually their doctors recommend what is good for the children and they are up to date to feeding their babies..Milk is very important to their daily intake..most mothers breast feed their babies..
There are baby foods that you can find at any shopping stores like Gerber foods... mothers who have time to make their own baby food like boiled carrots. potatoes or any food that their infants can take..
I was told they have very good nutrition that is why most babies get early teeth. Even the infant is still in mother's womb..nutrition and feeding is taught before the delivery.

Japanese babies enjoy eating roadkill. Tearing the flesh off of a rotting carcass makes their little mouths water. They keep the streets clean, and it's so cute watching them gnaw on the corpse of a fuzzy monkey!

Look at the image. This little bugger gutted the monkey and crawled inside!
