Recently my motherinlaw recommended we watch The Worlds Fastest Indian. She raved on and on about how good it was. She lent us her own personal DVD that she had bought.
Oh My Goodness. It was the worst movie EVER!
Now what do we say, when she asks how we enjoyed it?
Is there a movie that you DETEST, and you feel like you are the only one who does?

All The Lord of The Rings. Maybe it's just me, but I fail to understand why the words "one of the greatest cinematic achievements" and "Lord of The Rings" are paired together in the same sentence. Did we all see the same movies? It COULD be just me, I don't want to offend anyone who likes it!

It's all a matter of taste, of course. How you feel about certain actors, the subject matter, the genre, how important a logical plot and/or character development are to you, etc., are all going to affect how you feel about a movie compared to someone else. The best way to handle the situation you are in is to ask your mother-in-law what she liked about the film. Then you have a reasonable basis for comparing your differing reactions. Your statement that "It was the worst movie EVER!" is almost certainly not true. If you really believe that, you are blessed to have seen a relatively small number of movies.

My list of movies that I didn't like which were popular with almost everyone else I know is quite long, and it starts with Dream Girls. Pretty blasphemous, eh? Was there an actual story in the midst of all that wonderful singing? (I must admit, I dislike musicals in general. So I can't really list The Sound of Music or West Side Story because I have never been able to sit through either one) I despise the way Eliza is treated throughout My Fair Lady, and it angers me that she asserts herself so little. (Fetch his slippers indeed.) Dances with Wolves was long, pointless, and dull. American Beauty had some critical plot issues that destroyed any significant meaning it might have had. The English Patient I never got at all. (Granted, most of the people I knew who loved that movie had read the book, but that shouldn't be a prerequisite for seeing a film.) Pearl Harbor had an absurd storyline (anybody who accomplished everything the Ben Affleck character did would truly be "king of the world"), and it made the horrors of war look almost beautiful and treated them as a necessary backdrop for a stupid romance. The Blair Witch Project was poorly made and not frightening in the least. (When one of the characters actually threw away the map in frustration because they were lost, I started rooting for the "witch.") And the attempt to make it seem more realistic by moving the camera around to emphasize the "hand held" affect was simply nauseating and unrealistic. (They were supposedly film students; I'm a 50+ year old guy with arthritis and I can hold a camera steadier than that.) Dudley Moore's sudden attack of personal morality at the end of 10 is totally unbelievable (as is Kevin Spacey's at the end of the previously mentioned American Beauty.)

I've said more than enough to make my point. I'm sure I could sit down and have wonderful conversations about my assessments. In fact, I already have. It's a lot of fun if you treat it in the right spirit.

Napoleon Dynamite and Talladega nights.
I'm really not a fan of John Heder and Ferrell seems to be going downhill. Heder's annoying dumb kid acting really gets on my nerves. Seems like ever movie he is in he is playing the same stupid part.

Any movie that teenagers think are great. Examples would be Chronicles of Riddick, Van Helsing and all of the teen slasher films.

Napoleon Dynamite! Ugh. I just do *not* understand why people thought it was so great! Another one is Dazed and Confused. Stupid AND boring! I fell asleep halfway through and forced myself to watch the rest the following night. It didn't get any better. Never again.

'Ocean's Twelve' (sequel to 'Ocean's Eleven').

Never understood the punchline of the story in this film, except it had all the famous celebs we're constantly raving about in Hollywood.

I don't absolutely hate it, but I didn't feel like drumline held my interest, and all my friends LOVE it, I just don't see why. But I actually haven't seen the whole thing, so that could be the problem, haha.
