you should definitely not ignore English, as nowadays it is necessary to know reasonably good english to pursue higher studies in science, and for jobs. i assume your mother tongue is not Hindi, in that case u can take up either, depending on how much u want to develop yr particular language skill and knowledge. if u wish to pursue arts and are interested in taking up yr mother tongue as a literature subject, u should choose that. On the other hand, if u do not wish to pursue literature, then what u know of yr mother tongue from talking in yr family and perhaps society, should suffice for general communications purpose. So in that case, a knowledge of Hindi will be helpful when u later go to different parts of india for studies or job. some jobs nowadays require a certificate knowledge of Hindi.

let me tell u what i did
ENGLISH IS A MUST as it is the key to a good job.. it helps in an interview!
i took sanskrit as a 2nd lang cos it is very scoring... i usually get 100%!
agreed sanskrit is not gonna help u speak to anyone, but in school marks really count, so i took sansk
now, if u really need to apply the lang u learnt, hindi is by far the best choice if u r planning to travel around India... maybe settle outside ur hometown
but if ur definitely gonna stay in ur home town/state, take ur mother lang

Study in your mother-tongue. You will be able to understand the questions better and able to answer them more thoroughly. Convert to other languages later.
