a lot of times, when you call any 800 number, it can be to pledge money to a charity, order something you saw on tv or even to pray w/ people, that one company will enter that number into it's database. If you have it written on your check, or listed as your primary number w/ the dmv. There are lots of ways they get them, all you have to do is ask them politely to add you to their do not call list, they are required by law to do so, but I think you must clearly state that, which sometimes means saying it twice, depending on the particular company policy. Also, you can visit the do not call registry and add your phone number. It can take up to a month for the number to be removed from a telemarketing database, but after that, if you keep recieving calls and it's documented that you've asked a couple of times, you can sue them, by calling your state representative or whoever it is and they will have to pay a fine upwards of 10000 directly to you. Keep in mind the people who call don't really want to be calling, but it's their job and if they're grouchy, 9 out of 10 times it's because every tom dick and harry has been screaming and cussing at them all day long.
