Because they think that people who love each other are a kin to people that hurt each other. I am so sick of how straight people always bring in child molesters and rapists in to a discussion about gays and lesbians. They forget that 99% of that is done by straight people. Like we had anything to do with it. Frankly Its just a way for them to say Look these people are like all these straight males that hurt people. Never in my life have I raped a woman and I would die before I hurt a child but here I am lumped in with something I hate because they have no real argument against homosexuality. Really they don't. Looking at Sodom and Gomorra we see this.
The males were scared of the two males that came in to the town. So How do they handle it? They want to make the males weak, How do they do it? By making them women. How do they make them Women. They rape them. Had nothing to do with homosexuality. It was about Gang rape over fear of the unknown.
They Don't want us to even think about David and Jonathan.
David and Jonathan were heroic figures of the Kingdom of Israel, whose intimate relationship was recorded favorably in the Old Testament books of Samuel. There is debate amongst a few religious scholars whether this relationship was platonic, romantic but chaste, or sexual; though there is little to no evidence in the Bible to suggest that it was anything but a brotherly, platonic, relationship.
scholars, however, interpret the love between David and Jonathan as more intimate than friendship, though there is no reference in the Bible to anything but a "Brotherly" bond between the two.[1][2] This interpretation views the bonds the men shared as romantic love, regardless of whether or not the relationship was physically consummated. Jonathan and David cared deeply about each other in a way that was certainly more tender and intimate than a platonic friendship.

All of this scared the heck out of straight people. That's why they are not taught the true meanings of the book the covet so much

Man don't even get me started on how they feel about someone that has read it and understands it. Then they think that person is insane.

The fact is that not knowing about something different is bless
They do not see that maybe just maybe Homosexuality is the next step in evolution. If that's the case then all of this is for nothing because by that time all of us we be long gone and it is the children down the road that can look back and say man they were a backwards people.

Combination of factors really.. looks like you might be getting the PC versions and the standard issue fluff in some of these answers. Let me give it a shot... A large part is human nature, we are inately afraid of what we don't understand. Homosexuality is something most straight people don't understand, they can't fathom liking members of their own sex. Because of this, they fear it, and acting superior is a defense mechanism.

Also, homosexuals have generally faced a tough path and have confronted their own sexuality. They are generally more self aware and more comfortable being themselves because they've faced the those tough times and have learned to accept themselves. Straight people don't have the same stigma attached and may never be that comfortable because self-examination may never really occur. For this reason, they again fear and put up defense mechanisms because they see how outwardly comfortable homosexuals in general are with themselves.

Finally, degrees of homosexuality in people date back to antiquity, the ancient Greeks for example. Married men would have sexual relations with adolescent boys and this was considered acceptable in society and to their wives. I think occasional feelings of homosexuality enter every straight persons mind, and they fear that, hence homophobia.

Don't get me wrong, the standard stuff about it being morally wrong, not according to nature, etc. Sure, this is a part of it, but we may be missing the forest for the trees with these simple answers. For the record, I'm a straight guy, and admittedly succumb to some of the faults mentioned above, but knowing it lets me work on it.

I doubt it's most straight people, actually. Those that do probably think so because they are living righteously under God's Law (blablabla) and can (all things being equal) procreate.

Because some people think that Homosexuality is a sin and is a choice to make. Yet I think you are born gay, since they have even discovered that animals are now gay. Only the bigots think they are better then homosexuals. It all has to do with Christianity and intolerance.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T You should get to know and have friends from all walks of life. Thats why I love living in San Francisco.

Society always needs a group to hate and place the blame on for the difficult to explain problems it is faced with.

Hitler blamed the jews for pretty much everything that was wrong with German society. If the right wing had their way, they'd put the gays in concentration camps right now. They are smart enough not to say this because they know that it's not PC, but that is their lofty goal.

Far too many people have a need to feel superior so they pick a group (or 3) and convince themselves they are better.

They can't see how that cheapens their lives.

When speaking on this subject, someone always brings up that sex is mainly for procreation. So does that mean that heterosexuals that, for one reason or another, cannot have children, should not have sex or get married?

I dont think we think we are superior.....Most people think homosexuality is wrong....and from a spiritual sense, is is. We feel the same about child molsters and rapists......we dont feel that we are superior to those people ....we just feel like we dont belong to that category and dont want to. No .... not saying homos are criminals, but it's an off the wall sex act to us, the straight. I know....we say we accept you, (the gay).....but deep down and around our straight friends, we dont accept it. The law says we cant discriminate but it cant make us like you......just saying how it is.
