I always thought it would be fun to take ballroom dancing classes with my wife, but I don't have any dancing experience at all. Should I start off with something simpler first? If so, what?

Choose which type of ballroom dances that you like to learn. Start one at a time. If you like to learn Salsa, Cha-cha-cha, Merengue and Bachata, do not take all the classes at the same time. For Latin ballroom dances, start first attending beginner's lessons. If you have no experience dancing these type of dances, make sure that the class holds workshops on the rhythm and timing on these dances. In my class, I hold separate workshops for super beginners and I never encourage them to start partner dancing on their first session. For the first four sessions, my classes do the "Suelta" or a line solo dancing. The goal is to make each student familiarise with the basic steps and some important steps in the dance with music.

I never used to dance when I was younger. As a teenager I used to kick guys asses if they danced. When I was about 45 my wife and I took ballroom dancing classes at the local park district. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoy dancing now. Most of the people in the first class never danced before. Just take ballroom one and you'll enjoy it. As for those guys a long time ago......I'm still glad I did it. They deserved it.

Have fun!

When you enquire at a dancing studio, they are sure to have beginners to advanced lessons. If you have never danced before, start with beginners lessons, of course! If you can walk you can dance, so enjoy!
