As you watch it, you tend to put yourself in one of the character's shoes and live the emotions the character is going through!?

That's the only way to enjoy a movie.
Sometime I get carried away and repeat that character's lines just how they said it.

I tend to root for the good guy or people in the movie but I don't assume their character.

Not really, unless it is a particularly well acted part. I find myself doing this more so with characters in books.
