I can find out the size of the moon but what does that really mean to me? I only have the horizon by which to judge the immensity of something. So, how far above the horizon could I see if the moon were as near to me as possible while I am on the Earth?

The moon would curve up and the earth would curve down so you would be able to see the horizon.

the moon has a diameter of 3476 km.

So, if it were close to earth it would hide the sky
