When you add Fundamentalism to any religion you have trouble. It even causes war and conflict amongst followers of the same religion with different views and extremes.

there are many different reasons. religion, patriotism, vengence, some can not help it because they are mentally ill. this is a complex answer. as far as a religious reason remember religion is the people's opium. they will die for their religious beliefs. it is a commitment some people have with who ever they feel is their higher power. weather they are jew, muslim, chrisitan, hindu, buddist, what ever you. i do not think patriotism needs any explination. if your fellow country men and country is attacked you and any one else will fight for it. vengence is a good example your heart can be filled with so much grief you feel the only way to get over your demons is to kill others. and i am sure u understand the mentally ill explination. they just have a few screws left. also one point i would like to get across yo you is define terrorism. in one persons eyes it is terrorism in anothers it can be considered freedom fighting. i see terrorism in every nation in the world. weather it is global or local. to me there is no difference between the jewish people and the palestinians. yes some of the things the palestinians do to innocent jews is wrong but in my opinion i believe what was done to the palestinians who has no part in ww2 is discusting. i believe what happened in 911 is wrong but on the flip side i do not believe what the american military has done to the muslims for years is right either. (as well as he french, british, and spanish) colonization is terrorism in it self. when a nation is more powerful then another and they are resisted they are considered terrorist. why because that nation is more powerful so they are considered the (right ones) but in others eyes they can be the opressors which is correct as well. i would have to say the main reason terrorim happens is because people are desperate and are not left alone. the moral of the story is don't start no poop and their won't be any poop

An Idle mind is devil's workshop. This turns out to be the main reason for people to get involved in terrorism and other activities.
It is not a point to blame on the environment, that it makes terrorists. The environment has everything - both good and bad - and it is a tendency for most of the humans to absorb only the bad unwanted ideas.
So, the best way to avoid terrorism is to keep occupied us with some work. This is possible only when, we remain focused in our future.

I believe it's environmental, how a person is raised, what beliefs their parents have etc. How many times have you seen a child on TV of (approx) 7 holding a machine gun and cheering while their kin burns the american flag? That was a disturbing, disgusting image after 9/11.This is their way of life, what they're taught since they could talk. Terrorism is hereditary and yes I agree with the other poster, there are terrorists in every culture, but come on, we all know the majority of terrorism is done in the name of Islam.

People involve in terrorism because of the failure of judicial / political system.
We are so proud about Indian Army, but you know - many girls are raped in Kashmir because of Army men. Now, if that girl was your sister / wife / child - what will be do ?
As a first step, Go to court, Fight for justice ?
If you don't get justice (in India you will not get justice if you are POOR !) then you will either do the following:
a. put the blame on GOD and keep calm
b. take any extreme step to fight against the people who had done the crime - this is when terrorism and terrorist actually begin.
We could have easily avoided them, if we had provided good judicial remedy.
The same is the case with all the terrorist outfits - LTTE, Maoist, ULFA, Kashmiri militants etc;
We can only stop terrorism if we provide justice to help irrespective of caste, religion, richness etc;
The only reservation that I have against terrorist is: Why are they killing innocent people?, kill those who had done the crime - fight against them .. what crime had these innocent people did?

**EDIT** why do my fellow posters assume only Islam has terrorists, all religions including Christianity have had radical branches or sects that have been terrorists. Your comments are one reason why we have terrorism...because people assume they know it all.

I THINK THE WORD TERRORISM IS A WORD WHICH MAKE PEOPLE A TERRORIST . WE HAVE TO BAND THIS WORD AND SHOULD NOT HIGHLIGHT THEM THEY SHOULD BE CALLED AS CRIMINALS THATS THE FIRST THING TO STOP IT AND DONT MAKE A BIG ISSUE ABOUT THEM.

it is just because of partial and forcefull goverment policies which makes terrorist people always why do terrorist are growing up,why cant we think why do so many young people are ready to give their life its just because they are not happy with goverment policies and system
