You will first have to configure either your hotspot at home or have your work addresses be assigned automatically. On the TCP/IP properties select obtain IP address automatically. Click on Alternate configuration>User configured and then assign the other address which should be statically assigned. And its done.

Without knowing anything about where you work that's a hard question to answer. A few possibilities (check with whoever maintains the network where you work):
1) There is some kind of encryption code
2) External (non-company) hardware is blocked
3) There is no wireless access permitted

Most business workplaces have tight security to keep people from connecting to their network.

If you use your Wireless card software that came bundled then please refer to that help file. If however you use windows XP itself to manage your wireless connection then make sure you have updated your WinXP to SP2 as wireless support on earlier versions was limited.
Each time you connect to a different hotspot a new "profile" is created. This profile alllows you to connect quickly to "known" hotspots.
Please update all software related to Windows XP and your Wireless card manufacturer. You can find drivers and software for your wireless card on the manufacturers website.
To check your Windows XP version :
Right-Click "My Computer" and select "Properties".
The version would look something like Windows NT 5.0.x.x.x etc.
Feel free to email me for a follow up on how you're doing.
