The answer can also depend on the format of the game you are playing. Generally, in a tournament style game, you can show the only card you need to win, but it is a common (and insisted usually) rule that you show your kicker as well.
In a ring (cash) game, you can show just the winning card and are not obligated to show both.
These rules are not set in stone. Most rules dffer from game to game and different house rules depending on where you are playing.
Of course, if everyone mucks their cards, then you are not obligated to show anything at all unless you wish to.

Only if you have the same winning card as them and need the kicker to see who won the hand. You never have to show your hand if you don't want others to see it (like when you fold or say they won)

Yes, they get to see your cards. I think people watching the WSOP have gotten the idea that because pros don't always show both cards, they don't have to. Most pros don't care what the other card is. Nevertheless, if someone at your table wants to see both cards, they still have the right to see them if they paid to.

if you are called, dealer usually makes you show both cards ... if he doesnt, the other players can ask to see it.
