People are saying that he didn't die. I say, re-watch the ER scene and listen for the flat line! My theory is this:
When he flat lined, the small piece of kryptonite that was removed from his body was finally placed far enough away (in a dish) that it couldn't affect his bodily functions, so although he did "die" (since Kryptonian anatomy is different from humans, it's not safe to say he died at all, since he was being measured by human standards) his body was able to quickly reanimate itself. The doctors discovered this, and threw him in a hospital bed, where the rays of the sun eventually rejuvenated him.

They never said he was dead in the first place. Remember, Perry White and Jimmy Olsen standing in front of the case not knowing whether to run the Superman's Dead Headline or the Superman Lives one.
Also, the story reveals that Superman was energized by the sun. In the hospital, they kept his body by the window with the curtains opened. Bryan Singer has a way of trying to incorporate things from the comics that the ordinary fan would not know. The part about Superman being powered by the sun is something that ordinary fans might not know.

He wasnt dead, he had alot of kryptonyte running through his body, if he was dead, they would have put him in the morgue, but i believe he was just unconcious, in a coma, or something of that sort. When they took all the little bits of Kryptonyte out of his body in the OR we all knew he was gonna live, he was superman. He gets his energy from the sun and there was a window in his hospital room which gave him just enough energy to wake up and go see his sun. see, when people are in a coma, they can still hear what is going on, so he KNEW from when lois told him that Jason was his son. And as for the kiss on his forehead from his son, I believe that it is a good part in the story illustrating that Superman now had something to live for......but thats just my opinion :D

i think it has more to do with the reason this movie came about.
At least to me it makes sense.
the Plan A for a new superman movie was "DOOMSDAY" where Superman and the rest of the Super Heroes must try to defeat a invincible monster. Sacrificing himself in the end Superman is able to stop him but at the cost of his own life.
Over time we learn though that superman has something in his body that can regenrate him and through the story he is brought back to life.
it might explain where the idea came from.

The movie became superb. They spent a ton of time going over the unique. They even used countless of a similar strains from the unique. the only factor i could rewrite, became the tip. i does no longer enable the objective audience comprehend that Jason became in certainty Clark's son. i could have stored that for the subsequent movie. in case you bypass returned and watch the unique with Christopher Reeve and Marlon Brando.. the line that Clark says on the tip to Jason as he sleeps, is verbatim what Jor-El says to him earlier he sends him to Earth.

in SR he was never technically dead, just knocked out from the impact and his weakend state from pushing through the pain to throw the Krypto island into space.

I don't think he was actually dead, otherwise why would he have been in the hospital and not the morgue?
