We only have bad choice #1 and just as bad choice #2. The real weakness of the two party system is that each party selects the person to run that they feel has the best chance of winning the election -- not necessarily the best choice to hold the office.

This translates into a person who is put in office to follow the political agenda of the party. We need a system which puts people in office to follow the agenda of America first.

Disadvantages Of Two Party System

fewer people have a voice, as everyone must submit to the two parties and their agendas. if you have a radical or unusual idea, it will take a long time to integrate that idea into the political system as the two parties are so entrenched government. When was the last time anyone who had never been affiliated with one of the two major partes won a seat in the congress? There are hundreds of other parties and lots of ideas, but only two are represented. In Canada, they have about 5 parties in the federal govenrment.
I like a saying I heard a while back. America has two parties; the republican party, and the other republican party.

There are several disadvantages of a two-party system including the regimented party values politicians must follow, the inability to compromise, thus the inability to make effective change and the extreme polarization of parties. The two-party system also keeps independents and moderates from being able to act on any worthwhile ideas they share that do not fall squarely within one party

There are many disadvantages. Small parties, like the libertarian party and the Green Party, have little or no chance in the current system

I think the greatest disadvantage is that it fosters partisanship instead of thoughtfulness. With all the issues, domestic and foreign, it's kind of scary that there are two package deals available -- pick the lesser of two evils or waste your vote completely.
