This strikes me as dumb, because emo and depression arent the same damn thing! Emo is a fad, depression is a disorder, I hate to know that anyone who suffers from depression is put under the category of being emo. And all these stupid kids who think its fun to cut themselves, GROW UP Stop craving attention, you make me sick! These kids think their lives are so bad, yet they have a roof over their head and food in their stomachs. Nothing anoys me more than some emo kid who hates their life, well you know what? unless you're out in the damn street searching for food, you dont have a reason to hate your life. I get so tired of these stupid cultures, emo is by far the worst. from the music to the self mutilation. You know what? alot of people do that who suffer from depression does that make them emo? Stop putting emo and depression in the same category its stupid.
I cant wait till this whole fad dies, fads are stupid anyways
I was never a follower.

you are so emo

(emo is what you are doing now, it need not be related to depression. it it just complaining about things in a certain manor).

I agree with you so much here. I suffer from depression and I listen to some Hawthorne Heights and I have been called emo so many times but I do not follow the fads, I'm my own person and suffering from depression was never my choice, it happened after my mom died. I think that people just see the fad everywhere and see what goes along with the fad and thinks since people nowadays are such trend attention-seekers that people that have depression (which most emo's claim to suffer from and so much) are just trying to fit in.

I agree though, I'll be so glad when this fad passes. Listening to music is fine but when it becomes a fad to cut yourself and act depressed just to be "cool" the world is coming to a complete disaster.

Thanks for posting this!

In answer to your question: People are narrow-minded and lazy. Depression and emo are two totally different things.

As for the rant- I would assume that the ones who are actually self-mutilating and hating their life to the point that they are suicidal are probably really depressed and not so much craving attention. Adolecent depression is more common than what people realize. Adolesence is a tough time for many- even popular people are very self conscious. Being made fun of every day or being rejected for being ugly (because your hormones are kicking in- you're growing, awkward, have acne, and body odor) is every reason to be miserable. Each generation has problems of its own from parents- it seems like the current in-school generation's parents don't want to grow up themselves. But I digress...

What happens is that people tend to pick music that fits their mood. In my day it was grunge. Kurt Cobain and Alanis Morisette screaming in a mic about how life sucks. It fit our mood at the time. They wore grunge clothes, so we did too- because it was the current trend and to not do so meant more tormenting from our peers.

Hope this helps!

You do realize you just did the same thing right?

You just lumped cutters in with emo kids.

And you said that cutters do it for the attention.

I personally am not a cutter, however I have friends who are and who were, and I have worked in the pyschiatric health and childcare field for most of my life.

Cutters do not do it for the attention. Actually, they typically try to hide it because it is embarrassing.

Cutters often suffer from depression. They see cutting as the only pain they can control.

Cutting is a psychological illness. Depression is a psychological illness. Being emo is not.

It is good to hear that you are not a follower. You are, however, massively misinformed, and in that, quite ignorant.

Emo is not supposed to be a trend. It is originally a genre of music, and I hate how people misuse the word "emo". Everyone just assumes emo people cut themselves and are depressed, and that's just plain stupid. People who call others emo just because they suffer from depression are insecure and ignorant, and they feel making fun of someone else will make them feel superior. Most people are classified as emo based on their emotions or because of the way they are dressed, but they can't help that. You can classify someone emo based on the way they dress, but you can't base it on their emotions. That's why it's so stupid.

its nothing but ignorance. people think that others who suffer from true depression, even if it only lasts a little while, should be able to just "be happy" but it doesnt work that way, and i hate ppl who think it should.
But i will say, alot of "emo" people arent really as bad as you make it out to be. I am not emo, but i have alot of friends who are, and they certaintly arent craving attention. They are just being expressive.

i agree emo and depression are two totally different things. I know cuz i suffer from depression but i dont go around mutilating myself. however i believe the reason they are called emo....emotional for short. still it is a terrible thing to call someone who suffers from a disorder such as depression.

No they are not the same thing. If you seriously suffer from biological depression then you need medication. Being depressed is an illness and you should not feel "guilty" for suffering from it.

Until it hits them in reality, those kids won't care. People are usually self-absorbed by treating others badly because they need to be better than themselves. They know that inside they have been hurt and feel like they have to be superior for once.

YOU annoy me more than the people who would call me emo for being severely depressed.

You make me sick with your attention-craving behaviors.
