n= number of nickes
d=number of dimes
n+d=28
.05*n+.1*d=2.05
solve the top equation for n: n=28-d
substitute this into the lower equation:.05(28-d)+.1d=2.05
1.4-.05d+.1d=2.05
.05d=.65
d=13 therefore, n=15

the perimeters of this concern are: sixteen dimes and a million nickel = 17 funds 0 dimes and 33 nickels = 33 funds the respond must be someplace in between yet on the component of the 1st shrink. 15 dimes and 3 nickels = 18 funds 21-18=3 So, 12 dimes and 9 nickels = 21 funds is the respond.

let x = nickels, y = dimes
you have 28 coins so x+y=28
you have a total value of 2.05 so since each nickel is worth .05 dollars and each dime .1 dollars
.05x +.1y = 2.05
solve the first equation for x, x=28-y
plug this into the second equation
.05(28-y) + .1y=2.05
y= 13
plug this back into the first equation to get the value for x
x + 13 = 28
x = 15

n = number of nickels
d = number of dimes

n + d = 28
5n + 10d = 205 ----> n + 2d = 41

subtract the top equation from the bottom equation, you find that d = 13, and since n + d = 28, then 28 - 13 = 15 nickels.

dime = x
nickle = y
x+y = 28
x = 28 - y
10x + 5y = 205
10 (28 - y) + 5y = 205
280 - 10y + 5y = 205
280 - 5y = 205
280 - 205 = 5y
75 = 5y
y = 15
x = 28 - y = 28 - 15 = 13

2007-01-24 17:28:22 · answer #5 · answered by BryanB 4 · 1 0

n + d = 28
.05n + .1d = 2.05

5n + 10d = 205
n + 2d = 41
n = -2d + 41

(-2d + 41) + d = 28
-2d + 41 + d = 28
-d = -13
d = 13

n + 13 = 28
n = 15

ANS :
13 dimes
15 nickles
