My grandma passed away two years ago and I was given a box of items that was left for me by her. I just now started going through it and found a check for $1000.00 dollars pay to the order of myself. It apperantly was a birthday gift for a down payment on a car I liked when she was with me. So is it possible to deposit this check into my bank?

A two year old check is probably a problem since the estate has likely been through probate. As a general guide though, yes. A check is considered same as cash, and is not voided by the writer's death. If there is still money in her account it is good. Don't count on it though.

No. Most personal checks will not be honored after 90 days. Her death would not effect the validity of the check but the age of the check does.
Please do not get tempted to try and alter the date of the check, that could result in criminal charges costing far more than the $1000.00.

No. A personal check is not good for more than 90 days, a governement check I believe for one year. When someone dies, whatever money they have goes to pay any outstanding bills. The bank would not keep her account open this long anyway.

Better make sure their is still money in her checking aaccount. There has to be at least 1000.00 in there for the bank to put it in yours. Most likely family has already closed the account. The person that is in charge of her finances should know.Good luck. It is possible that she was waiting till she had enough money in her account before she gave it to you so that it didn't bounce.

The checking account won't even be there anymore.
