Hoodoo originated in New Orleans.
It is a mixing of Voodoo, which wasn't allowed but made African American slaves feel like they controlled something in their lives, and Christianity, which was.
There are many arch-types that cross over between the two religions, like a 'healing saint' and a 'healing Deity/spirit' or a 'protection saint' and a 'protection Deity'.
I'm not saying that everyone in New Orleans did/does this, I'm just saying that that is where this originated from. It ISNT 'black magic(k)'. They didnt worship Satan, and did more things to protect one another than anything else.

There are a lot of practitioners of Voodoo in New Orleans, yes.
As to Black Magic (shrug) I do not know for sure.
Vodun and Black Magic are not one in the same by the way, that's just propaganda.

Yes and yes. The religion of Voudon traveled with slaves from Africa, and became incorporated with Catholicism and became "voodoo."
The House of the Seven Sisters and Madam LeVeau are historical there.

voodoo and black magic aren't the same thing.
there is also hoodoo. i think that voodoo and hoodoo are fairly common in new orleans, but i don't know about black magic.

I have been there only twice, 25 years apart. I noticed more palm readers and other such things than any place else that I have been. Because of that and the implications in books and movies, I suspect there is plenty.

Yes but you must understand it is of no bad intentions, nor is these practices what many assume they are. Do some research to enlighten you on this practice of the many whom came there many many years ago, they held to their culture and kept these practices in tact also did you know , these are used all over the world not just there!
