phantom of the opera?

for the recent movie, was Carlotta's voice edited into the movie. in other words, was the actress who you see in the movie really singing? or did she lip sing, then editiors put in some other woman's voice?

It was a dub over sang beautifully by Margaret Preece, a singing teacher in the UK with extensive opera training. It was actually one of the stipulations that Andrew Loyd Webber had for the making of the film. All principal actor had to be able to sing their parts and all have some sort of background in musicals and/or opera. Minnie Driver while an experienced singer had no training in opera and therefore was dubbed over.
