I didn't get mine either and have been on the phone for hours trying to get it. I'm fed up. I am switching.

DirecTV does not do it's own installations. They contract different company's to do installs. These contracted company's are the ones that are offering the free DVD players. If you didn't get yours then they forgot to give it to you or it was a different company that did your install and not the company that had the free player promo. You need to contact the company that did your install directly and not DirecTV. Their number should be on the invoice you signed after the install.

Well, no, I do not believe it is a scam. What I do believe happened is that they had a problem with their fulfillment company. This happens a lot, and it is not right, but it is usually a fulfillment company that is the source of the problem.
I am sure that they will do whatever they can for you, as they do rank above most companies for customer satisfaction.

That happened to me also! I called them and they tried to give me some song and dance about the DVD player being worth only about $30.00. They offered to credit my account for the $30.00 they claimed it was worth. But I told them no dice! They had to send me the DVD player in the mail. Yeah...it probably was worth only about $30.00 but it was part of my contract so I fought for it. :)
