During the 1934-1935 NHL season - The Montreal Canadiens had three players wear #99 Joe Lamb - Desse Roche - Leo Bourgault.
Wilf Paiement was playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs he wore the number 99. He is the last player since Wayne Gretzky to wear that number. He last wore #99 on the 6th of March, 1982 against the Montreal Canadiens.

The answer to this question is none. Wayne Gretzky originally chose the #99 because when he first came into the WHA with the Indianapolis Racers, the #9 he wore throughout his junior career in honor of Gordie Howe, was taken by Brian Gualazz. As an underage player, he didn't have much clout at the time, so head coach Muzz MacPherson suggested he settle on 99, which he kept throughout his career.

The person to come closest to wearing 99 was Mario Lemieux, who wore 66, which is simply 99 turned upside down.
