You don't have to pay for the wireless service. You just have to set it up. I agree that a Linksys is probably the best way to go. They're not the cheapest, also not the most expesive, but they work great. Also, it may be in your best intrest to have someone, who knows a little bit about them, hook it up for you. It may save you a headache.

Yes, setting up a wireless network at home is as simple as contecting a wireless router to your cable modem. However......

If as you say you don't want the moochers to borrow you ISP access without your permission, that takes a little more. You would have to enable "Encryption" on the router. Fairly simple thing to say, but can be a bit of a problem to do if you are not familiar with the equipment.

As the others have mentioned I would suggest that you purchase a Linksys (Model-WRT54G) That is a 4-port wireless router.

Then when you get the router home call the Tech support number in the manual and have a someone from Linksys walk you thru setting up your router correctly the first time.

You don't have to pay for a service. All you need is the wireless router. Follow the directions in their manual and you should be able to set it up with no problems.

It's that simple. But I suggest you get a Linksys router and I don't think they are sold at Wal-mart. Linksys has great customer service in case you need help.

Good Luck

believe it something isn't charged for! thats all you need ... and the wirless network wizard ... I guess they make it up in the price of lan card ... depending where you live though "cable" gives the router and cards with the install.
