You will need more time if you wish to combine both Mumbai and Goa alongwith Maharashtra.

Goa needs atleast 3 full days to explore. Goa tourism and few private tour operators conduct 1 full day tour for South Goa and 1 full day tour for North Goa. You can take these 2 tours to explore Goa. On the remaining 1 day, enjoy the spot which you may liked most while touring on earlier 2 days.

Travel to Goa and back from Mumbai will consume 2 nights, if you travel by late evening luxury buses or Express trains on Konkan railway. Getting reserved seats on trains is the most difficult thing on Konkan railways. Best bet is travel by luxury buses.

Sight seeing in Mumbai can be completed in a couple of days. If you wish to visit few nearby sights/tourist spots you will need about 3 days.

Please decide what you want to see and experience. Then plan your tour. My advice is: select either Goa or Mumbai only. Please don't try to cramp too much in a week. You will be unable to enjoy the nature. One alternate is you can book a car on hire from Mumbai and visit Goa and see many places in Maharashtra enroute. This can give you best of both coastline Maharashtra and Goa.

In case you decided for something like this and you need more information, please let me know. I can give you details and information. But be specific about your plans.

Bon Voyage.
