There must be an epidemic of something going around. Why is everyone obsessed all of a sudden with reformatting??? It just don't make any sense unless there is a clearly defined problem that can't be solved another way. Reformatting ALWAYS involves risk that there's something you forgot to back up, not to mention the time investment in the whole process like getting your settings back to what you like.
Please consider the problem first, and decide if that's really the best way to do it. Good Luck

If you have the original "restore CD" for that laptop, just put it on the drive, reboot the computer, and follow the instructions.
If you don't have the restore CD, then you will have to find a CD for the operating system you use, reboot with it, and reinstall the operating system, then you will have to reinstall the drivers for most of your computer devices that are not recognized by your operating system. Like driver for your video card, driver for your audio card, and so on.
Easiest way probably for you, if you have the factory restore CD, just put it on the CD/DVD drive, and reboot.
I hope this help :)

it didn't come with a disk? try a system restore.....programs...all programs, and then find the system restore program as a start. you should be able to restore to a point (date) where everything was running smooth. then save that date to where you can go back. i would not do a total restore as you will have to reinstall some software. BTW, You need an OS later than 2000 cuz they didn't have system restore then. I would upgrade to XP if you are not running that already. good luck, if that does not work, I know someone,(my Dad) who can help you for free.
