Yes, it is hard. However, if you work at it, market yourself shrewdly, and stick with it, you can make it. I recommend the book "Secrets of a Freelance Writer, Second Edition: How To Make $85,000 A Year" by Robert W. Bly to teach you the ropes, because I've found it very useful and informative.

Yeah it's hard. I went through Long Ridge Writer's Group's "Breaking into Print" program and it did wonders for me. Haven't got published but I'm working on it. It's kinda expensive, but it helps hone your skills and you can even get college credits for it.
