My wife and I moved to Dallas 6 months ago. We've done all the touristy stuff and shopped everywhere possible. We are not into clubbing. Any suggestions or secrets for weekend activities?

If you want to drive into Las Colinas there is the canal its off O'Connor near the Mustangs and you can take her on the Gaundala, around the area it is very nice, and there are also some little resturants, and a couple of bars, and maybe you can get a nice glass of wine.

Sundance square in downtown Ft. Worth is nice. You can go walk around downtown, there is musicans on the streets and art gallerys, lights, people, artist. It's pretty.

The McKinney Avenue Trolley is romantic to ride. It takes you from the Arts district to the west village. You can stop at museums, resturants bars, and it's free! www.mata.org.

Grapevine winerys.

Weatherford.

Go to Grandberry its pretty and there are some great bed and breakfast spots, shopping, the lake...

There are sports, festivals and concerts everyweek pretty much in DFW.

Also, the Botanic Gardens is really pretty in Ft. Worth. Trinity Park has a miniture train ride you can take.

Traders Villige in Grand Prairie.

Dallas Nature Park in Cedar Hill.

if you want a hot chocolate and s'mores around a campfire romantic I'd recommend "Lee Harvey's" I think they have a website

Through Feb. 4, go to the stock show in Fort Worth.

For weekend get-a-ways, Theres a town called Salado between Waco and Austin it's cute, they have the best resturant called Stagecoach in, its famous and Several bed and breakfasts places to stay as well as one hotel. Its a very small, quiet, town. They have a little downtown area with antique stores.

Dinosaur Valley state park in Glen Rose is cool. You can also visit Fossil Rim animal park and go tubing on the river while you are there.

Tyler is really pretty and you can visit the Rose Gardens, and they have a great state park.

If you want to dive farther, check out Galveston, Shreveport, Degray Lake in Arkansas (its about 45min from Hot Springs but worth the drive. Very Beautiful) Austin is cool too.

I could go on and on, let me know.

Have you done the museums, Science Place, zoo yet?

Fort Worth also has the stockyards and a great zoo.

Try driving a little bit north and go to Arbuckle Wilderness and Turner Falls. Just head north on 35E and it's just across the border in OK. From Lewisville, a suburb of Dallas, it's about 2 hours.

Have you been to Grapevine yet? They have a Winery and a pretty cool downtown area.

If you are into antiques, Old Downtown Denton square has some good shops as well as the most awesome used bookstore. McKinney has some real good antique stores too.

East Texas is a very short drive from Dallas. There is the big Canton Monday Trade Days which is held the 1st weekend of every month. Also, the Rose Gardens in Tyler. Marshall Texas is nice too.

Mesquite has a great Rodeo.

There isn't much to do outdoors in the Dallas area unless you like the over crowded, water moccasin infested lakes.

My biggest suggestion for a weekend get-a-way would be to head to East Texas. Very pretty and lots to do.

Definitely check out guidelive.com and also the Dallas Observer. Awesome music and especially theater in Dallas, inside nightclubs and out. Also as we get into the Spring there is a great arts or music festival somewhere around the city almost every weekend. Usually we have "dueling events" going on.

The Dallas Symphony is also quite good and sometimes great. (Anybody got tickets to the Rachmaninoff Concerto concert they want to give away?). Also the Dallas Art Museum has "late nights with jazz" I think on Thursday.

The Dallas summer musicals is putting on the best line up of plays in years and years. Circque du Soliel is coming to town . . . and so on and so on. There are dog shows and cat shows and boat shows and outdoor shows.

And how about sporting events? Not only do we have a major league team in each major sport, we have college teams at Division I, II and III levels in the area. You can watch polo, go to horse shows, go to the rodeo.

And, there are multiple opportunities to volunteer for charities, walk in walks, run in races.

If you are bored here, you are not looking in the right places!!!

Consider renting or buying a pop-up camper and exploring the outskirts of the Dallas Fort Worth area. There are many wonderful state parks in North Texas. Check out these web sites:

Check out the mavs or stars this time of year. In spring, check out the renaissance faire in Waxahachie. US national soccer team will play a couple games at pizza hut park in Frisco. A good picnic spot in Spring is Joe Pool lake in Grand Prairie. I agree with the day trip to Glen Rose, but wait 'til its warmer. If you're a Christian you should check out The Promise in Glen Rose. It's a very cool passion play done outdoors in an amphitheatre. In Summer you get Shakespeare in the Park. Don't miss the Texas State Fair in fall. Hmmmm.....
Can't think of much more.
