A lawyer has already been consulted but did not give clear answer...but the question is, how do you get a divorce in India if you're a man and the woman doesn't want the divorce? There has been no contact for 3 years (she remains in the same home but we never talk at all...). She makes threats and has kept me and my mother prisoner in our own home...any (serious/real) suggestions?

A few more details....there is NO relationship whatsoever...we dont' talk, we are not in the same room, I am gone for long periods of time and I never tell her anything. I don't know where she works, she doesn't know what I do. She has a room all to herself, all the utilities, rent and food for free...so why would she want to leave? My mother is afraid to ask her to leave because she's threatened to send her police brother to throw her in jail...it's quite a mess.

not really sure how India's laws work but why would she NOT want a divorce if you do?
how does she keep YOUR mother prisioner in your house?
SInce you have already pretended that she is not there (not talking for three years)
just pretend to be single
go out stay gone for days on end and continue to ignore her
she will get tired of it sooner or later...for all you know, she might file
(dont confuse her by having sex with her)
